INTRODUCING THE US ARMED FORCES TRANSPLANT TEAM
The United States Armed Forces Transplant Team will proudly represent current and former service members, as well as their families and supporters, at the 2026 Transplant Games. This team is inclusive of all U.S. military branches and honors the strength, service, and sacrifice of its members through sport, advocacy, and shared experience.
To join the U.S. Armed Forces Team, you must be:
-
A transplant recipient, living donor, or donor family member who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, or donated to a member of the Armed Forces
-
A family member, caregiver, friend, or supporter affiliated with the U.S. Armed Forces
Important Note: If you are currently affiliated with a state team and wish to join the U.S. Armed Forces Team, you cannot be a part of both teams.
TEAM MANAGER(S)
International Teams
Interest in the Transplant Games continues to rise both within the United States as well as from the international community. We are very excited to welcome everyone who wishes to help further the cause of promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation and we'd like to clarify the rules for our international friends. International participants are welcome to register for Transplant Games of America events.
Our mission to highlight the amazing medical miracle of transplantation and to honor the sacrifice of living and deceased donors crosses all borders, all countries, around the globe. Internationally-based recipients and living donors may compete in one of three ways:
-
Option 1: International competitors may compete as an international team (example: Team Australia, Team Mexico, Team Italy, etc). All other team rules apply.
-
Option 2: International competitors may compete as individuals (No team affiliation)
-
Option 3: International competitors may compete as guest team members of a U.S. based team. Guest team-members must indicate their “guest” status when they register. We will add the appropriate question on the registration site. Please Note: International athletes will compete and when appropriate will be awarded duplicate medals so as not to eliminate U.S. athletes from medal consideration. Medals awarded to international competitors competing with U.S. teams will not count toward overall team medal counts.
Team Cup Award
The Team Cup Award is given to a team of 10 or more competitors (Division 1 & Division 2) who collectively have won the most medals per capita during the weekend. Three points will be awarded for a gold medal, two points for a silver and one point for a bronze. The total number of medal points will then be divided by the number of team members.
For each team sport medal won, the team will be awarded the points to one corresponding medal. For example, a basketball team of six members wins a gold medal. Each team member will receive a medal, but the team will only receive three points (the points equivalent to one gold medal) toward the Team Cup Award. Similarly, a volleyball team of 12 members wins a silver medal. All 12 members will receive a medal, but the team will be awarded two points toward the Team Cup Award.
Point Calculation Example:
-
Team A has 200 team members and wins:
-
35 Gold medals, 42 Silver medals and 60 Bronze medals
-
Their point total is:
-
35 x 3 = 105
-
42 x 2 = 84
-
60 x 1 = 60
-
-
-
Total = 249 medal points
249 medal points ÷ 200 team members = 1.25
-
Team A won 1.25 medals per person
-
Team B has 75 team members and wins:
-
45 Gold medals, 50 Silver medals and 30 Bronze medals
-
Their point total is:
-
45 x 3 = 135
-
50 x 2 = 100
-
30 x 1 = 30
-
-
-
Total = 265 medal points
265 medal points ÷ 75 team members = 3.53
-
Team B won 3.53 medals per person
So, in this example Team B would win the Team Cup Award because they won more medals per capita (per person).
